D, B&B : Dinner, Bed and Breakfast
Located in south-western Africa, Namibia boasts a well-developed infrastructure, some of the best tourist facilities in Africa, and an impressive list of breath-taking natural wonders. Visitors can explore the capital of Windhoek and discover the lovely coastal town of Swakopmund boasting remnants of the country’s German influence, reflected in the architecture, culture, cuisine and the annual Oktoberfest celebrations. To appreciate this extraordinary country appropriately, you will have to venture out of the cities to explore the remarkable natural landscapes Namibia has to offer. These include: the impressive Fish River Canyon; the vast Etosha National Park teeming with abundant wildlife, such as lions, desert-adapted elephants and the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra; the hauntingly beautiful Kalahari Desert; and of course the Namib Desert stretching for over 2000 km along the magnificent Atlantic Coast. Namibia is an ideal destination for travellers seeking an unforgettable African experience in a uniquely beautiful untamed wilderness.
BANKING AND CURRENCY
Currency
The currency of Namibia is The Namibian Dollar (NAD; symbol N$) is in note denominations of N$200, 100, 50, 20 and 10. Coins are in denominations of N$5, N$1, 50 cents, 10 cents and 5 cents. It is linked to the South African Rand (R) on a 1:1 basis (South African Rand = 100 cents). The South African Rand is also acceptable as currency in Namibia.
The import and export of local currency is limited to N$50,000. The import of foreign currency is unlimited, provided sums equal to or exceeding NAD5,000 are declared on arrival. Export of foreign currency is unlimited up to the amount imported and declared.
Banking
Banking hours: Monday - Friday 09h00 to 15h30 and Satuday 08h30 to 11h00
Banks are found in most towns, with most being closed on Sundays and public holidays. Most of them offer foreign exchange services - with cash, bank and credit cards as well as travellers cheques.
American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard and Visa are accepted. Credit cards are not usually accepted at petrol stations, so bear this in mind when you visit the ATM. Setting aside an emergency petrol cash fund is a good idea if you’re planning to drive.
You can also obtain cash from many of the ATMs. Several international banks have branches in main city centres. Always advise your bank that you are travelling outside of the country as they might block your purchases if they have not been informed.
To avoid additional exchange rate charges, take traveller's cheques in US Dollars or South African Rand. In general, you can expect a better exchange rate for traveller’s cheques than for cash.
Public transport in Namibia is geared towards the needs of the local populace, and is confined to main roads between major population centres. Although cheap and reliable, it is of little use to the traveller as most of Namibia’s tourist attractions lie off the beaten track.
It is easy to travel around Namibia by car, and a 2WD vehicle is perfectly adaquate for most journeys. However, long distances, poor mobile phone coverage outside of main towns and infrequent petrol stations that only accept cash mean that planning ahead is vital.
There are major airlines that fly into Windhoek and Swakopmund. Other destinations are reachable by car or charter flight.
Namibians drive on the left and all signposts are in English. Seat belts must be worn at all times and talking in a mobile phone while driving is prohibited. The general speed limit is 120km/h on tarred roads outside of towns and 100km/h on gravel roads. In built up areas, the speed limit is 60km/h.
Traditional Namibian cuisine is rarely served and so the food at restaurants tends to be European in style and is, generally, of a very high standard.
Namibia is very meat-orientated, and many menu options will feature steaks from various animals. However, there is usually a vegetarian and seafood section offered by most camps and restaurants.
In the supermarkets you'll find pre-wrapped fresh fruit and vegetables (though the more remote the areas you visit, the smaller your choice), and plenty of canned foods, pasta, rice, bread, etc. Most of this is imported from South Africa.
The water in Namibia's main towns is generally safe to drink, though it may taste a little metallic if it has been piped for miles. Natural sources should usually be purified, though water from underground springs and dry riverbeds seldom causes any problems. However, filtered and bottled water are readily available in most towns and all camps, lodges and hotels.
Partially covered by the Namib Desert, one of the world's driest deserts, Namibia's climate is generally very dry and pleasant – it's fine to visit all year round. Namibia only receives a fraction of the rain experienced by countries further east. Between about December to March some days will be humid and rain may follow, often in localised, afternoon thunderstorms. These are more common in the centre and east of the country, and more unusual in the desert.
April and especially May are often lovely months in Namibia. Increasingly dry, with a real freshness in the air, and much greenery in the landscape; at this time the air is clear and largely free from dust.
From June to August Namibia cools down and dries out more; nights can become cold, dropping below freezing in some desert areas. As the landscape dries so the game in the north of the country gravitates more to waterholes, and is more easily seen by visitors. By September and October it warms up again; game-viewing in most areas is at its best, although there's often a lot of dust around and the vegetation has lost its vibrancy.
November is a highly variable month. Sometimes the hot, dry weather will continue, at other times the sky will fill with clouds and threaten to rain – but if you're lucky enough to witness the first rains of the season, you'll never forget the drama.
Namibians have a somewhat relaxes attitude to dress codes. A jacket and tie is very unusual. In fact, long trousers and a shirt with buttons are often quite adequate for a formal occasion or work wear. A pair of sensible shoes, jeans and a t-shirt is recommended.
During the day it is generally hot, so pack light weight loose fitting clothes in natural fabrics, such linen or cotton, that will keep you cool and are easy to wash and dry.
Avoid blue clothing - the tsetse flies are drawn to the colour blue, and their bite can give you African Sleeping Sickness.
Long sleeved shirts and long trousers will protect your against mosquitoes at night.
Electrical sockets in Namibia are Type M (SABS-1661). If your appliance's plug doesn't match the shape of these sockets, you will need a travel plug adapter in order to plug in. Travel plug adapters simply change the shape of your appliance's plug to match whatever type of socket you need to plug into. If it's crucial to be able to plug in no matter what, bring an adapter for all types.
Electrical sockets in Namibia usually supply electricity at 230 volts AC / 50 Hz frequency. If you're plugging in an appliance that was built for 230 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need. If your appliance isn’t compatible with 230 volts, a voltage converter will be necessary.
This vast country is undoubtedly one of the most culturally and geographically diverse places on earth. Fondly known by locals as the 'Rainbow Nation', South Africa has 11 official languages and its multicultural inhabitants are influenced by a fascinating mix of cultures. Discover the gourmet restaurants, impressive art scene, vibrant nightlife and beautiful beaches of Cape Town; enjoy a local braai (barbecue) in the Soweto township; browse the bustling Indian markets in Durban; or sample some of the world’s finest wines at the myriad wine estates dotting the Cape Winelands. Some historical attractions to explore include the Zululand battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal, the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and Robben Island, just off the coast of Cape Town. Above all else, its remarkably untamed wilderness with its astonishing range of wildlife roaming freely across massive unfenced game reserves such as the world-famous Kruger National Park. With all of this variety on offer, it is little wonder that South Africa has fast become Africa’s most popular tourist destination.
BANKING AND CURRENCY
Currency
The currency is the Rand, which is divided into 100 cents. There are R200, R100, R50, R20 and R10 notes. Coins come in R5, R2, R1, 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c.
Banking
Banks are found in most towns, and are generally open from 09h00 to 15h30 on weekdays and 08h30 to 11h00 on Saturdays (Closed Sundays and Public Holidays). Most of them offer foreign exchange services - with cash, bank & credit cards as well as travellers cheques. You can also obtain cash from automatic teller machines (ATMs). Several international banks have branches in the main city centres. Always advise your bank that you are travelling outside of the country as they might block your purchases if they are not informed.
Travelling around South Africa is relatively easy by air, road and rail.
Principal air routes are serviced by SAA and British Airways. There are also low-cost carriers on main routes, namely Kulula.com, Mango and Safair. Facilitating travel around South Africa are 10 airports managed by the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa). In addition, there are some 90 regional airports, including the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Nelspruit and the Skukuza Airport, offering access to the Kruger National Park.
An extensive tarred road system makes travelling in South Africa by vehicle convenient and easy. You will find gravel roads in rural areas though. Please note that a valid international driver's licence is required. We drive on the left-hand side of the road. Most global car hire firms have branches in South Africa and Uber is available.
Another means of getting around South Africa are inter-city bus services such as Greyhound and Trans-Lux. Metrobus buses are available for in-city transport. Metered taxis must be ordered by telephone. There is the popular MyCityBus system in Cape Town as well as a hop-on-hop-off tourist bus in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The rail system includes the long-haul, inexpensive Shosholoza Meyl Metrorail trains. More luxurious options are the Blue Train, Premier Classe and the steam train Rovos Rail. There is also the Gautrain rapid transit railway system in Gauteng Province llinking Sandton and Marlboro to the O.R.Tambo International Airport and a Commuter Service linking Rhodesfield, Marlboro, and Sandton (east-west link) and Park, Rosebank, Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria Central and Hatfield (north-south link). All stations with the exception of the Airport station have integrated car parking facilities.
Standards of hygiene in relation to food health and safety in South Africa, are generally high in hotels, restaurants, pubs and nightspots. Tap water in South Africa is safe to drink and cook with when taken from taps in urban areas. Not all tap water in rural areas is safe for consumption, so take precautions if necessary.
It is safe to eat fresh fruit, vegetables and salads, and put ice in your drinks. South Africa's fish, meat and chicken are of excellent quality, so there is no need to limit yourself when enjoying the local cuisine.
Restaurants are subject to South Africa's food safety control legislation, which is implemented by local government. Regulations include certification and regular inspections by health inspectors to ensure hygienic standards are maintained.
Street food is not as common in South Africa as it is in other countries, although vendors selling traditional snacks and meals can be found in city centres and townships. Food safety in such instances cannot always be guaranteed.
South African temperatures, which are measured in centigrade, average at highs of 28°C to average lows of 8°C in the summer months while winter temperatures range from 1°C at night to around 18°C in the day. Average annual rainfall is on the low side at under 500mm a year, making the country somewhat dry. Much of the rain falls in the Western Cape in the winter, differing from the rest of the country, which experiences summer rainfall. On the plus side, the South African climate boasts more than its fair share of sunshine, recording an average of 8.5 hours a day.
Summer
Bring clothes that are cool, light and comfortable because summer temperatures can get well into the 30 - 40 degree Celsius range in some areas. Also bring an umbrella or raincoat during summer as this is when most of the country gets its rain, but don't forget a swimming costume (bathing suit).
Winter
The winters are generally mild, comparing favourably with European summers. But there are days when temperatures dive, especially in high-lying areas such as the Drakensberg, so be prepared with jerseys and jackets. Cape Town gets its rain during the winter season so it’s advisable to bring rain gear along.
General
Always bring a hat, sunglasses and sunblock as the sun can be strong even in the winter months.
Walking shoes are a good idea all year-round, with warm socks in the winter.
If you are doing business in the country, business attire (suit and tie) is generally called for in the corporate sector, but media for example generally dress more casually.
For game viewing, a couple of neutral-toned items will be useful, but there's no need to go overboard. A good pair of walking shoes is also advisable.
For the evening, if you are dining at an upmarket restaurant or seeing a show, smart-casual attire is recommended.
Electrical sockets in the Republic of South Africa are Type M (SABS-1661).
Electrical sockets in South Africa usually supply electricity at 230 volts AC / 50 Hz frequency. If you're plugging in an appliance that was built for 230 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need. If your appliance isn’t compatible with 230 volts, a voltage converter will be necessary.
Besides breath-taking landscapes and abundant wildlife, Namibia offers food connoisseurs a unique culinary experience. For meat enthusiasts Namibia is just the right destination, while fish lovers get their money’s worth on the coast. While inland farm produced meat like beef, mutton and lamb are staple food for most locals, more exotic assortments of venison such as springbok, mountain zebra, oryx, kudu, warthog and hartebeest to mention but a few, have found their way to the traditional Namibian cuisine for centuries. A long tradition has biltong, air-dried spiced meat strips, which was a method of meat preservation in the old days and has , and smoked game. Since no hormons or antibiotics for fast growth are fed to the animals, Namibian meat has been attributed bio food quality.
Delicatessen on the coast include locally cultivated oysters, which can be enjoyed year round, rock lobster, mussels, clams, exquisite Kingklip, hake and Steenbras, all harvested and caught in the unpolluted fertile waters of the Benguela current in the Atlantic Ocean.
Upon arrival at the Windhoek International Airport meet with your guide who will accompany you for the duration of your culinary adventure in Namibia. ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Pelican point kayaking
Our Pelican Point Kayaking tour gives our guests the opportunity to kayak amongst our permanent seal colony at the tip of the Pelican Point Peninsula about 35 km outside of Walvis Bay. We regularly encounter dolphins and - in season between July and November - even whales.
The tour starts at 7h45 (from 01 September until 30 April) or 8h30 (from 01 May until 31 August) at the Walvis Bay Waterfront. We take our clients in our 4x4 vehicle on a scenic drive along the Walvis Bay Lagoon and the salt mines to Pelican Point. We stop along the way to take pictures of our our countless flamingoes, pelicans, large flocks of cormorants and great variety of other birds and wildlife.
After a safety briefing on how to use the equipment and our local conditions, we kayak for app. 90 minutes amongst our seal solony on the protected side of the Pelican Point Peninsula.
Our kayaks are molded plastic sit-inside double or single kayaks. They are very stable and suitable for inexperienced paddlers too.
After coffee, tea, rolls and cookies, we head back to Walvis Bay.
Twyfelfontein rock art : Twyfelfontein is a World Heritage Site boasting one of the richest rock art concentrations in Africa. Thousands of tourists come to this site each year to view some 2, 500 Stone Age rock engravings. The area is home to 17 rock art sites, which collectively encompass 212 engraved stone slabs. There are an additional 13 sites displaying rock paintings.
Organ pipes : The Organ Pipes are located near Twyfelfontein and a few kilometres to the Burnt Mountain in Damaraland, Namibia. It is a 100m long feature of unusual dolomite columns these rocks were formed by volcanic activity and after erosion, the rocks have remained in the form of organ pipes.
Burnt mountain : Burnt Mountain is a small hill located near Twyfelfontein and just a kilometre from the Organ Pipes in Damaraland, Namibia. This national monument displays an intense variety of colours formed by volcanic activity interacting with organic material that transformed into a sedimentary bed over 125 million years ago.
DAYS 8 - 9 : SOSSUSVLEI
The journey continues to yet another highlight on this adventure as we depart for the southern Namib Desert and the red dunes of Sossusvlei via the Moon Landscape and Solitaire. We cross the vast expanse of the gravel desert, descent and ascend the Kuiseb and Ghaub Canyons before we reach Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge for lunch, which is not included and will be on your own account. Then we proceed to Solitaire to taste a slice of the freshly baked apple pie prepared by the Moose Mc Gregor Bakery that made Solitaire famous beyond the country's borders, before we negotiate the last leg to reach We Kebi Safari Lodge in the early evening.
Dinners offered at We Kebi Safari Lodge are another culinary experience with organic vegetables from the own garden, oven-fresh homemade bread and tender free-range meat grilled to perfection. After dinner we sit around the fireplace indulge in merry conversation and marvel at the star-studded African nightsky above us.
The next morning we leave early as we want to see the sun rise from amidst the dunes. We climb Dune 45, walk to Dead Vlei, where ancient dead trees form a stark contrast against the backdrop of the red dunes, the white lake floor and the clear blue desert sky. On the way back we visit the Sesriem Canyon, a 36-metre deep gorge cut into the surrounding limestone conglomerate by the Tsauchab River millions of years ago. Then we return to the lodge for an afternoon nature drive through the lodge's own nature reserve. Return for dinner, which is another scrumptous affair.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Dune 45: Named for its location 45 kilometres past the town of Sesriem, Dune 45 is renowned for its elegant shape, which – along with its position close to the road – have earned it the distinction of ‘most photographed dune in the world’. If you’re not keen for the strenuous hike to the top of Big Daddy, Dune 45 is a more forgiving alternative, standing at only 80 metres and featuring a much gentler gradient.
Dead Viei: This ancient clay pan was once an oasis, studded with acacias and fed by a river that suddenly changed course, leaving the earth to dry up along with the trees it previously supported. So dry were the climatic conditions that the trees never decomposed – instead they were entirely leached of moisture so that today, 900 years later, they remain as desiccated, blackened sentinels dotting the pan’s cracked surface. Surrounded by the red-pink dunes of the Namibia Desert, they create a surreal spectacle that is a photographer's dream.
Sossusveli - The Red Dunes: This magnificent desert wilderness of vast, rust-coloured sand dunes, clay pans and petrified forests lies in the Namib-Naukluft Park. Formed over countless centuries, some of the dunes measure up to 300 metres in height and are among the highest in the world. In the rare event of an especially wet rainy season, the ‘vlei’ – meaning marsh or wetland – of Sossusvlei fills up with water, and its glistening surface forms a strikingly beautiful contrast with the reddish dunes.
Sesriem Canyon: Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon.
DAYS 10 : KALAHARI NAMIBIA
On the last day of our Namibia adventure we are heading towards the Kalahari Desert, which we will reach in the early afternoon. Check in at Zebra Kalahari Lodge and relax a bit before we participate in another game drive through the private game reserve. For sunset we stop on top of a dune and watch Hephaestus' charriot disappear over the western horizon, while enjoying a fine glass of wine and snacks. Then return to the lodge for dinner, after which we will sit around the fireplace for the last time with the awe-inspiring African star sky above us.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Intu Afrika Kalahari reserve 4x4 safari: the Intu Afrika Kalahari Reserve, situated in Kalkrand, Namibia, offers guests a 4x4 safari. Game drives are the most popular activity at the Intu Afrika Game Reserve because of the high density of animals that live there and because of the different landscapes. The sparse vegetation allows guests to easily spot the plethora of game that lives in the reserve.
The reserve is home to zebra, oryx, wildebeest, springbuck, waterbuck, kudu, blesbok, tsessebe, eland, ostrich, giraffe and even a lioness and there are many interesting bird species to discover. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and zealously share their passion for the animals, the plants, and the area. Game drives can be booked in the morning or in the late afternoon which allows the Kalahari to show off its magical sunsets. After a 2-hour drive, the guides set out a lavish display of snacks and drinks for guests to enjoy as they watch the sun set.
DAY 11 - 12 : CAPE TOWN
As the Namibian part of our journey ends, we prepare to leave for the airport and our onward flight to the mother city Cape Town. Once we have arrived and checked in at our hotel, we explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront at the towns harbour. Dinner will then be served in the Jonkershuis Restaurant at South Africa's oldest and most prestigious wine estate Groot Constantia.
The next day we explore the town and Cape Peninsula driving through the suburbs of Muizenberg, Fishhoek, and Simonstown, all the way to Cape Point to see where it is said that the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet. In the afternoon and on our way back we visit the extensive Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden before we return to our guesthouse and prepare for dinner, which will be in Cape Town's best cape-malay restaurant, the Bo-Kaap Kombuis.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
V&A Waterfront : Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain in the heart of Cape Town's working harbour, the V&A Waterfront has become South Africa's most visited destination. Set against a backdrop of magnificent sea and mountain views, exciting shopping and entertainment venues are intermingled with imaginative office locations, world-class hotels and luxury apartments. The Waterfront is the heart of the tourist industry in Cape Town.
Boulders beach : Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town is ideal for kids as immense boulders shelter the cove from currents and large waves - but please always take care. It is a rare pleasure to swim with the penguins but don't touch or feed them. They might look cute and cuddly but their beaks are as sharp as razors and if they feel threatened they have no qualms about nipping the odd finger or nose.
DAYS 13 : STELLENBOSH
Today we leave the mother city behind and travel to South Africa's second oldest town Stellenbosch in the heart of the winelands of the Fairest Cape. Once we have checked in at the Stellenbosch Hotel, we take a stroll in the historical centre of town, before we take off for an explorative tour of the winelands with some wine tasting and a delicious picnic basket and wine from the estate for lunch. Dinner will be in a fine restaurant in town.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Spier Wine farm : Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa with a recorded history dating back to 1692. While rooted in this heritage, Spier has a vibrant and conscious energy. Award-winning wine can be paired with fabulous food, grown either on the farm or by nearby farmers. The winery is one of the most awarded in the country and the Spier Hotel and meeting facilities offer inspiring winelands getaways in the tranquility of nature.
Spier is committed to doing the right thing for the environment and communities, and is renowned for its responsible tourism approach. The farm has been recognised by various external organisations including Fair Trade in Tourism (FTTSA) and the Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association (WIETA).
In 2011, Condé Nast Traveler World Saver Award recognised the estate as the top international destination ‘Doing it All’. Spier is a Champion member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI), and the cellar has ISO 22000 certification, is Fair Trade accredited, organically certified and follows the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) criteria.
Spier’s environmental and social initiatives are many and varied, and include ways to reduce water usage. 100% of its wastewater, and over 80% of its solid waste, is recycled. Spier supports local communities through the treepreneur project, which encourages people in impoverished communities to grow trees in exchange for essential goods. The estate also supports entrepreneurs by helping them create micro-enterprises linked to Spier.
DAY 14 : CAPE WINELANDS
This day is dedicated to exploring the winelands, visit some wine estates, and Franschhoek with its famous huguenot museum.

ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Haute Cabriere : Haute Cabrière is situated on the Franschhoek mountain pass, overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful Franschhoek Wine Valley, and is truly something extraordinary. A rich history, a whimsical setting, a seductive approach to wine and a magnetic proprietor ensure that it is a decadent affair for any visitor. The core belief that wine is grown and not made makes the farm's ethos incredibly real and intrinsically human. Wine is more than what is in the bottle and it is considered an exceptionally intimate experience. This seductive conviction is intertwined with the farm's ultimate philosophy that wine is bigger than one, it's the combination of four factors: Sun, Soil, Vine, Man.

A range of local produce can be purchased direct from the farm – cheese and olive oil from the deli, fresh bread from the bakery and vino from the cellar. Or if you prefer dining indoors you can follow up a wine tasting with a Mediterranean meal from the farm's Goatshed Restaurant.

Full carnivore feeding tour: Carnivore feeding tours are child friendly from any age but parents should take responsibility for their children. During the two and half hours drive you will visit our baboons, caracals, lions, cheetahs, wild dogs and leopards. Watch them being fed by our experienced guides while they explain how these carnivores came to live on this reserve. Followed by a scenic drive with a good chance of spotting some of the other wildlife. This is not just a great way to learn about these amazing animals and how they behave in the wild, it is also a great up close photo opportunity. A superb introduction to conservation and the work we do here at N/a'an ku sê. (Prebookings Necessary).
Caracal experience: Take a walk with our habituated caracal and our guides. During this walk you will get to see how these animals behave in the wild, stalking birds and small mammals as they regain their natural instincts and hone their hunting skills. You will also experience the serenity of the Namibian veld and no doubt be accompanied by a wide variety of bird species.
Behind the scenes with Marlice van Vuuren: Follow in Marlice’s footsteps and get an intimate view of the workings of a wildlife reserve and sanctuary. After enjoying a sumptuous breakfast at N/a’an ku sê Lodge, take a stroll on our beautiful reserve with a magnificent caracal, before meeting Marlice at the wildlife sanctuary. Here you will learn all about our human- carnivore conflict mitigation research, and become smitten with our gorgeous sanctuary orphans. Bond with the baby baboons (there’s nothing like it) and become fully immersed in Marlice’s magical world!
Sunset horse riding through our beatiful reserve: Experience the wonders of our wildlife from a saddle! There’s nothing quite like it. A two hour horse ride through the bush will give intermediate and advanced riders the unique chance to observe our wild game closer than ever before – and you may even be lucky enough to ride amongst our gorgeous giraffe family. Our experienced coordinator will provide you with all of the necessary safety equipment and will guide you on a fabulous afternoon.
Barboom experience: Meet our playful primates and experience the joys of monkey fun on a not-to-be-missed baboon walk. All of our baboons came to N/a’an ku sê either after losing their mums (Namibia’s Chacma baboons are tragically persecuted on an almost daily basis), or having been rescued from situations of abuse. Our baboon buddies adore the interaction and bounding through the bush on their daily walks. Why not join in and get to know firsthand just how incredible these animals are?
Meerkat experience: Take the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enter N/a’an ku sê’s very own “Meerkat Manor”, and spend a magical two hours witnessing the delightful antics of the bushveldt’s most beloved residents. Meerkats are early risers, emerging from their dens from approximately 6.15AM. Hence you will be met at the main lodge building and then it’s off to enter a madcap meerkat world on N/a’an ku sê’s picturesque reserve. *Please note that even though we always do our utmost to ensure significant meerkat sightings, the animal kingdom plays by its own rules, thus sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Cheetah experience: Habituated cheetahs have lost their fear of humans – a fear that is crucial in elevating their survival chances in the wild. For this reason, some of the magnificent spotted sprinters at N/a’an ku sê need to remain in captivity, having come to the sanctuary from various conflict situations at very young ages, requiring dedicated care to ensure their survival. At N/a’an ku sê we fully nurture and encourage their natural behaviour, captivity resembling the life of their wild counterparts as closely as possible. Enjoy time with our habituated big cats, in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Simply not to be missed!
Sunrise - set game drive on Zannier reserve: Our experienced guides will take you with our well-equipped open game drive vehicles around the pristine 9,000-hectare reserve, showcasing some of the most incredible wildlife in Africa! Early drives at sunrise are ideal to observe the Namibian plains waking up, while evening drives reveal the elusive beauty of the nocturnal savannah. An experience that you will never forget…
Visit of the Shiloh wildlife sanctuary: The Zannier Reserve by N/a’an ku sê is home to the Shiloh Wildlife Sanctuary, a valuable center aiming for caring rhinos or elephants that have been injured or orphaned in poaching incidents. Enter this wildlife animal clinic managed by the N/a’an ku sê Foundation and discover the incredible work of passionate vets who are rescuing and taking care of endangered animals.
Rhino feeding: Put your hat on, pull up those sleeves and jump on the back of the bakkie. We are going to feed the rhinos! Get on the back of the bakkie and drive to the shed, load your own lucerne bail, about 6-8 bails will be loaded & continue to the feeding spot. Watch while feeding take place, about 11-13 rhinos will be fed at once.
Na'an Ku sê lodge restaurant: When it comes to feeding the soul, our team of passionate chefs will prepare Euro-African dishes to entice the palette and uplift the spirit. Whether it's a wake-me-up breakfast, picnic in the veldt, dinner under the stars, we will be ready to look after your every culinary need. For functions we can accommodate any need including sit-down dinners, braai’s, luncheons, buffets or cocktail and canapé functions. Our restaurant is open and welcome to day visitors, with our Sunday buffet lunch a popular choice for those living or travelling through Windhoek.

Rock engravings & petroglyphs
A trip to the Rock engravings & paintings, The Burnt Mountain and The Organ Pipes accompanied by a resident guide. Many of the rock formations are the products of prehistoric volcanic action. Fascinating plants in the area include the Welwitschia Mirabilis, the Moringa and a variety of Commiphora species.
Rock engravings: The engravings have very few depictions of humans; by far the majority of the engravings at Twyfelfontein depict animals and their spoor. The rock engravings at Twyfelfontein revealed a deeper understanding of the world to the hunters and the gatherers that lived there in the past.
Organ Pipes: These masses of perpendicular dolerite pillars are located down the riverbed and formed by the intrusion of volcanic rock dolerite about 120 million years ago.
Burnt Mountain: Located a couple of kilometers from the Organ Pipes and visible from the road. The Karoo limestones which formed the mountain were deposited around 200 million years ago. About 120 million years ago, the same period the Organ Pipes were formed, volcanic lava intruded the limestones and metamorphism giving the mountain its distinctive colour.
Departure time: 08h00 (after breakfast)
